Indonesian food in Edmonds

I noticed this Indonesian shop called Waroeng Jajanan a few times when getting boba tea at Tapioca Express. They're both in the same plaza a little north past Ranch 99. Waroeng Jajanan was closed the first time I intended to stop in, but today for late lunch, I decided to check them out.

As soon as I walked in, a friendly patron explained what each snack was. I thought she worked there, but she was just nice and thoughtfully helpful.

There are tables, aisles of specialty groceries, and then a side counter of freshly made treats and snacks. I got some cassava chips, pineapple cookies (sooo delicious), a rectangular savory-sweet pastry called risoles, an empanada with chicken and noodles, and a glutinous rice cake with chicken reminiscent of a tamale called lemper. I think this is a family-run store, because there was a young girl who took my order, and I believe it was her mother who prepared the food and rang me up.

I ordered Ayam Kremes, a dish comprising  fried crispy crumb-topped chicken--leg and thigh, a scoop of rice garnished with fried garlic, two cucumber slices, a small triangular piece of fried tofu, and chilli sauce.

I took home my purchases and plated the Ayam Kremes, risole, and empanada. The chicken is tasty, tender, and flavorful. And the chilli sauce is not as spicy as I feared it to be, which is good! It means I can use up the whole container without having a glass of milk nearby to quench the spice burn.

It was a very nice lunch and I appreciate how the portions are just right. If you have an adventurous palate, like fried chicken, and enjoy experiencing food from different cultures, I encourage you to check this place out!
