Ice cream cake!

Sometimes, I have random cravings for specific things. Blame it on the DOMS I'm experiencing from working out the night before, but I really wanted something sweet, something dairy, and something with chocolate. Something with texture ... ice cream cake!

So I decided to check out Dairy Queen's ice cream cakes because I'd never tried one before. And I cannot remember when I last had ice cream cake. I'm thinking it was during college, in which case, that was years and years ago!

Looking online, I couldn't decide if I wanted the "Chocolate Xtreme Mini Blizzard Cake" or the "Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Mini Blizzard Cake." I always get the PB cups Blizzard when I do get a Blizzard. From a scientific and nutritional standpoint, I'm assuming that I need the calcium, energy, and magnesium. And I work hard for the nummy. In the end, the chocolate won.

After calling the Edmonds location and being told that they were out of stock, I called the next-closest location in Lynnwood. A nice young man answered, reserved the ice cream cake for me, and I got in my car to head over. I picked up the cake via drive-through—very convenient—and headed back home.

When I got home, it was thawed pretty well. Not completely,  but good enough. I took it out from its huge cake box and cut myself a slice. I think it's pretty good, and it isn't too sweet (if I don't eat too much at once), but I wish it had more of a cake texture in the layers instead of just crunchies. It also has little bits of brownie as garnish, which was interesting. Call my palate refined, but I was hoping that the chocolate would taste richer and darker. However, it's DQ, not Momofuku, so I'm thankful that DQ met my craving.

In the box, straight from the Lynnwood location drive-through. It's not really mini, either: This looks to serve 6 to 8 people. I've got plenty of leftovers. :p

What the DQ website makes it look like, and what the one from the store actually looks like—not as chocolatey as I had seen. Did they run out of an ingredient?

No cake layer, but some chocolate crunchies

This looks to be layered well.
It hit the spot!
